Amstrad CPC Information

Amstrad CPC 464 – an 8-bit personal computer released in 1984 by Amstrad Company at a price of 249 pounds, as a competitor to the Commodore 64 and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. This computer was also known as Shneider CPC 464 modification GT65 – the same Amstrad but released for German, Austrian and Switzerland market with green screen. The computer was equipped with Zilog Z80 processor (2,5 MHz frequency), 64 kb RAM, cassette recorder and Locomotive BASIC 1.0 operating system.

Amstrad CPC stands for Color Personal Computer. It worth to note that on the background of competing platforms by Atari, Commodore and Sinclair, games on Amstrad CPC looked quite on the level, and often were superior than their analogues for ZX Spectrum delighting the eye with vivid colors. Of course we cannot compare it to the beauty of VGA level or multi-CGA on PC, but keep in mind it was year 1984! IBM PC fans in the best case were satisfied with 4-color CGA. Amstrad CPC became widespread in France.

Today, a lot of emulators of Amstrad CPC are in development stage. Worth to mention the most popular such as CPCEMU and WinCPC. CPC roms games and emulators can downloaded for free on our website.
