Tunnel Runner is a 3D maze game released by CBS Electronics in 1983 for the Atari 2600. It was programmed by Richard K. Balaska Jr. Created in 1983 Tunnel Runner was one of the very first 3D first person view games ever, long before Wolfenstein 3-D. It was one of three games for the Atari 2600 featuring RAM Plus (the other two being Omega Race and Mountain King), where the cartridge itself contained an additional 256 bytes of RAM to supplement the console's 128 bytes.

The game offers two modes of gameplay. The GAME1 mode is a campaign mode, with pre-programmed levels that never change. GAME2 mode generates random mazes for each level.

In the game, the player has a first person view of a maze that he or she has to navigate. The task is to locate and use the exit door of the labyrinth within a certain time limit. Whilst many mazes have multiple exit doors, the player must find the key hidden somewhere in the labyrinth. Once the key is obtained the player can leave and progress to the next maze. However, if the player could not find a way out of the labyrinth within the time limit he has to repeat the level upon finding the exit. At higher levels the available time decreases considerably.
